His last album Love In The Future was release in the summer of 2013, but it took quite a while for his single “All Of Me” to make it to the top of the charts. This is the first new material we’ve heard from John Legend since his Oscar win last month.
Since he’s become a big name all around the world, his record label has decided to re-release “Lay Me Down” as a single, and it is performing better in both countries this time around. Second attempt “Money On My Mind” went to number one in England, and of course we know that “Stay With Me”, actually the third single from his album, was the track that made him a star in this country. After it failed to reach the top 40 in the UK and had no impact in the States, his label moved on to other songs. “Lay Me Down” was actually Smith’s first solo single, though it didn’t do much to make him a star. Smith re-recorded Lay Me Down a third time, collaborating with John Legend, for Comic Relief 2015, and it topped the UK singles chart.

In 2011, fellow boy band The Wanted released “Gold Forever” for the same cause. John Legend joins Sam Smith for this special version of Lay Me Down for Red Nose Day 2015. In 2013, One Direction mashed up Blondie’s “One Way Or Another” and “Teenage Kicks” by The Undertones to create “One Way Or Another (Teenage Kicks)”, which immediately went to number one in the UK.
The fundraising event works with a high-profile music act to release a special single, with Smith just being the latest in a series of pop stars that have stepped into the studio for the greater good.
